Lactobacillus Reuteri for Probiotics Supplements

Lactobacillus reuteri or L. reuteri is a lactic-acid bacterium that lives in the intestine and sometimes in the stomach. It belongs to one of the major genera of bacteria that produce lactic acids. It’s naturally found in the environment, including the GI tract of other mammals and birds.

  1. reuteri has many beneficial effects on the body for people of all ages. These include reducing cholesterol and H. pylori infection. It has also been used for female urinary tract and vaginal health and infant GI health.

  1. reuteri is one of the well-studied strains of probiotic bacteria. People had been using it for years as supplements, as it can be found in a large variety of food products. It is effective in inhibiting the activity of harmful bacteria, yeast, and other microorganisms. As a result, much of the study on L. reuteri focuses mainly on its use for urinary and GI conditions.

Initially, L. reuteri has been used for treating a serious health problem in newborns known as necrotizing colitis (NC). NC happens when part of the colon dies. L. reuteri was used because of its anti-inflammatory property. Interest in L. reuteri grew after several published studies concluded that changes in the gut could alter the immune system.

What are the different potential benefits of L. reuteri?

  1. Treating infantile colic
  2. reuteri is one of the best probiotics for babies. It helps prevent several health issues, especially those with colic. Colic causes babies to have stomach pain, which makes them cry for hours. Babies are given with L. reuteri experience less time crying each day from pain because of colic. Aside from reducing pain from colic, babies who were supplemented with L. reuteri probiotics have shown reduces feed tolerance, less time needed in the hospital, and reduced late-onset of sepsis.
  3. Boosting the immune system

One way L. reuteri work is by increasing the number of T cells called Treg cells. Treg regulates the immune system by producing a certain cytokine. L. reuteri increases the number of Treg cells in the intestine and prevents the action of other T cells from reversing the process.

  1. Preventing diarrhea because of rotavirus
  2. reuteri may help prevent and treat diarrhea because of rotavirus. Rotavirus is a viral infection that causes diarrhea and which may lead to dehydration when left untreated. When given L. reuteri, children recover much more quickly.
  3. Preventing eczema
  4. reuteri helps prevent eczema in children. Eczema is a skin condition that can cause rashes, dry and itchy skin.

 L. reuteri is also great for adults. It has a wide range of health benefits including:

  • Prevention of workplace sickness
  • Promoting regular bowel movement
  • Treating and preventing urinary tract infections
  • Relieving constipation
  • Reducing pylori infection
  • Repairing leaky gut with symptoms like gas, bloating, pains, and food sensitivities.
  • Supporting dental health as it is the only probiotic found in the mouth with the ability to kill other harmful bacteria
  • Lowering cholesterol level
  • Increasing vitamin D3 levels in the blood
  • Treating IBS and IBD when used along with rhamnosus
