The gut bacteria are mysterious in many ways. There are actually trillions of them in your body and the majority, exactly 70% of them, lives in your gut. Collectively, you call them the gut microbiome. Among the trillions of gut bacteria, there are around 1,000 species and thousands of distinct bacterial strains.


Everyone’s gut microbiome is unique. Things like your genes, your age, your surroundings, your lifestyle, diet, and medications all make up your microbiome. Your gut microbiome plays a vital role in keeping you healthy that is why you need them, and you can meet that need by adding probiotics into your diet.


How your gut affects your entire body

When bacteria pass through the GI tract, they latch onto cells in the intestine. If they can’t latch themselves, they will pass through without causing any harm. In a healthy gut, most of the cells in the intestine have probiotics or healthy bacteria attached to them. This means only a few cells are left for the bad bacteria to cling on.


To get the right number of good bacteria in your gut, you need to consume foods with probiotics. Probiotic-rich foods include fermented foods and dairy products. Another easy way to keep your gut microbiome balanced is to take probiotic supplements.

Probiotics can add to the good bacteria that are already in your gut and help keep everything in balance. Probiotic supplements can help inhibit the growth of bad bacteria, boost the immune system, promote good digestion, and reduce toxins out from the body. They are also touted as remedies for common digestive problems like diarrhea, constipation, IBS, and IBD. But not all probiotics the same. Each type works differently, and they can have different effects on your body. Different strains have different functions in the body, as do different dosages.
